233 - Fic: White Picket Fence

Title: White Picket Fence
Author: Dragon's Phoenix
Rating: G
Word Count: 100
Prompt: 233: favorites (character)
Characters/Pairing: Richard and Edna Mae Wilkins
“I don’t like that hedge around the Henderson’s yard.”

He rattled his newspaper in response.

“I’m serious Richard. How am I supposed to walk up to their porch after they’ve shut themselves apart like that?”

“Now Edna Mae, you know that’s nonsense. We saw them out there just the other night, as friendly as can be.”

“You mark my words. People are growing colder, more distant.”

They had another forty-one years of marriage together. After she died, he spent three days building a while picket fence around their yard. She’d been right about one thing: he’d never felt more alone.

Oh nice! Mayor Wilkins always makes me sit up and pay attention.

Aww, poor Mr Mayor. Evil, yes, but still human. (Till the giant demon snake thing...)

The Mayor always reminds me of Pratchett/Gaiman's description of most Satanists in Good Omens as seeing the midnight rituals in the same way other people see turning up at church on a Sunday.

And so much more effective a villain because of it.

Liked it, btw :-)

Still under Willow & Tara's spell,
Ray.
