Okay, this is my first time participating here so I apologize if I goof in any way. My hometown is Los Angeles, so that's where this previously-posted drabble is set. I hope you enjoy it.

First Star I See Tonight

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might...

Willow knew better than to finish the old rhyme. She had learned through hard and painful experience that there were no harmless, childish wishes for a girl from the Hellmouth. No playful games of wanting for her. Not for the sidekick-of-a-Slayer-turned-witch-turned-exiled-magick-junkie-pariah. So she refused to complete the whispered sentence, or even the thought.

The city of Los Angeles lay spread out before her as she stood on the roof of the old hotel, its vast expanse mocking her with its brightness and a promise of escape it would never keep. Angel came up behind her, taking her in his arms, those cold, inescapable arms. She tried not to flinch as he kissed her neck, murmuring his love in her ear.

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might...

No. No wishing for Willow, no matter how badly she wanted to be anywhere but where she was right now.

After all, wishing was how she got here in the first place.

The End

Oh dear! Yes, wishing really can be very dangerous!

Very nicely done, my dear.

Awww, very sweet. I like how you incorporated the "Star Light" rhyme into this.

I really enjoyed how you played with the idea of "wishing" and getting what one "wishes" for - nicely done!

Ooh... this is simply beautifully written. I love your description of the view of LA from the rooftop.

I am kind of on the other end from Sarah here in that I get the feeling (and I might be wrong) that Willow really doesn't want to be there. What with the flinching and wanting to escape and all. Kind of curious how it got to that point. One of those unanswered questions. :) Very creative use of the nursery rhyme though.
