It was a sex thing, well yeah, a loneliness thing really. And they both knew it. They’d been through an ordeal together. That always promotes closeness. And anyway, better for two lost people to find each other than crazy demon flyer man and his underground death factory. Anyway, Buffy had to admit that the afternoon with Lily had been pretty amazing. She might tell her friends about it some time – Xander would want pictures – but she wasn’t telling her mom. That would be icky. And besides, poor Joyce would have enough to deal with.
Going home was going to be hard, but it was time.

It wasn’t that she was homophobic. But if she had gay friends, she wasn’t aware of it. She hadn’t ever really thought about it, which was odd, considering she’d lived in a blue state all her life and worked in an art gallery.
Then Pat came along, and it was like a whole new world. Pat was kind and attentive, and they shared interests. The sex was a little awkward at first, but they got over that quickly. Sure, maybe it had started as solace, and maybe it wasn’t where she thought she’d be at this point in her life. But it was good, and she was grateful.
And now that Buffy was home, things would be good. Of course she wondered what her daughter’s reaction was going to be, but that wasn’t what mattered. Buffy was back, and everything was going to be fine now, just fine.

Yeah, it was pretty weird. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I was flattered to get the invitation. I hadn’t seen either of them since graduation. I guess Larry was still grateful-
Willow looked confused. For what?
Never mind. Anyway, it was weird. Larry’s still kind of a jock, believe it or not, but Scott Hope? Well let’s just say he was never that glamorous in high school. Maybe because he didn’t wear taffeta that often.
Willow giggled the giggle of old times. What did you get them?
I got them tickets to Cirque du Soleil. That’s pretty gay, right?

Unlikely, sure. But not because of the lesbian thing. Kennedy could have gone either way. She was an adventurer, never the settling down type. But life with Rupert was hardly settling down, was it? More like exhilarating. Sometimes downright exhausting. Command central slayer was exciting, and Rupert was more, well, agile than his stuffy name implied.
