013 Drabble

Title: Need
Author: sithvicious aka Julia
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Prompt: This is How it Goes
Characters: Riley, Buffy
A/N: This is my first drabble ever from the point of view of the often ignored Riley

She’s never really with me.  I mean, she is physically, but mentally? I’m not so sure.  Even after finding out about the Initiative, knowing that we have some common ground, the same goal, still, she’s distant.

It’s hard. I’m trying, I really am.  I reach out, and she shrinks back.

But when they touch me, bite me, feed on me, I know that I am needed.  I know it’s not right.  But how else can I feel wanted?

She has me beat, in strength, experience, tactics.  The world needs her. So, who needs me? They do.  They need my blood.

I like this look into Riley's psyche, the need to be part of something, I think it's the commando part of a unit thing that he needs so much that Buffy doesn't.

That's great, I always wanted to know Ryley's thought during that time.

I love POV's, it is great how writers perceive characters and there thoughts during pivotal moments, or highly emotional ones

Thank you for doing the makeup prompt correctly. I will probably point people towards your posts as an example of how to do it right. So Sarah and I appreciate that.

Riley isn't a character that is seen a lot in fic or icons or really, at all, so it is always nice and different to get a glimpse into the man. Nice reflection of his possible thoughts during that time.

Yay! A Riley fic. I didn't really like him the first time around, but on second viewing, I really started to appreciate him as a character.

That said, I think you did an excellent job here really getting into the problem in the Buffy/Riley relationship - his feelings of inferiority and her distance/inability to commit. Great job with this one.

And although Kelly already said it, thanks for doing the make up correctly!

that's an excellent look into Riley's head. I get his character, but I never did get the "vampire hooker" part; maybe it was simply the desire to feel like somebody really needs him. Many of us have struggled with that.
